I think I will loss all my readers who are Star Trek fans, but I think this song, which has upset the entire Star Trek fan base, captures the spirit of the Space Movement and should be it's anthem. Yes... Yes... *equips flame war armor* I think Faith of the Heart, written by Diane Warren, should be the anthem of the space movement.
It's been a long road
Getting from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near
This part of the song represents the huge technological and scientific accomplishments humanity has made. To think we started from nothing and have stepped on the moon is amazing. The fact that I am typing this blog post on technology considered science fiction 100 years ago is epic. It also captures why failing at the achieving the space vision would be shameful. We shouldn't be here; humanity should have been stuck in the stone age. But, we have the equipment to do anything. To respect those who created this impossible time by accomplishing everything we can and pushing our technology to the breaking point.
And I can feel the change in the winds right now
Nothing's in my way
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No there not gonna hold me down
Unlike the Space Movement that brought the Apollo landings, this movement is widespread. The driving force for Apollo, from my understanding, was isolated to a few people. Because of social media, the support for, interaction with and advocacy for manned space flight is widespread. This large scale support for space habitation and manned space flight will ensure humanity has a permanent space presence outside of Earth's orbit. Because of this widespread support for space; because space is now embedded into the popular culture, we can't be stopped.
Cause I've got faith of the heart
I'm going where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe
I can do anything
I've got strength of the soul
And no one's gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star
I've got faith
The Space Movement consists of people who have space running through their veins. Yes, money is to be made in space, but someone does not go into this field for money. One of the most frustrating fields, a field that demands perfection a field that has a long waiting time to see results. The people who work in this field do so because they love looking up at night at the moon; they dream and long to step on it's surface. This part of the song reflects the driving force of the Space Movement; passion.
It's been a long night
Trying to find my way
Been through the darkness
Now I finally have my day
And I will see my dreams come alive at last
I will touch the sky
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No there not gonna change my mind
This part of the song represents the period after Apollo. That was a really dark time in human space flight. To step on the surface of the moon an not to return to it for years and stay in the comfort zone is a shame. humanity should be ashamed that we have only stayed in Earth's orbit. But, this new movement will bring the end to this dark age of space flight.
I've known a wind so cold and seen the darkest days
But now the winds I feel, are only winds of change
I've been through the fire and I've been through the rain
But I'll be fine
In a way, the dark age after Apollo is good. This Space Movement is different from the Apollo movement; this movement is sustainable.
This is why I think Faith of the Heart represents everything the Space Movement is made of and should be it anthem. Do you guys know of other songs which capture the essence of the Space Movement?
