Types of Engineers and Space

Today I participated in Columbia University's Days on Campus* and learned some things about engineering degrees and their use in the space field. From what I learned in the academic fair, engineering degrees break down like this -

Civil Engineering: Useful for space station and space colony design.

Aerospace Engineering: The structure and design of spacecraft.

Mechanical Engineering: The propulsion of a spacecraft.

Since launch costs are the major factor in preventing the space economy from dawning, I'm going to be a Mechanical Engineer.

*: Yes, I'm going to Columbia University.
